Planning a van build

Preparing to build a van is an extensive process and can certainly be intimidating. Even after you’ve purchased a van, getting to the point where you’re ready to pick up some tools takes a lot of work. You need to plan your layout, decide on which products to buy, calculate the amount of materials and arrange purchasing, consider your interior design, aesthetic and much more. Fortunately, we’re here to help accelerate your journey through the planning phase towards the actual build.

We'll take care of everything needed before you even pick up a tool.

Layout planning
and diagram

There are infinite ways to plan a van's layout, and the ideal layout will be different for everyone. The van you choose, your intended lifestyle, and personal preferences will dictate a unique layout. We've seen and considered thousands of layouts across van types and styles - so it's safe to say that we have the knowledge to create a custom layout that's optimal for your individual purposes. After conducting an introductory video call to discuss your preferences and needs, we'll create a diagram to map out your entire build using industry standard software, giving you a clear model to jumpstart your build process.

Identifying and
purchasing materials

Beyond choosing appliances and features, it can be difficult to gauge the mass of materials needed for an entire van build - all of the wood, screws, nails, wires, adhesives, furnishings, etc. can be difficult to plan ahead for given the calculations needed for amounts, and range of material types. Given a van type and build layout, we're happy to help you prepare a list of materials that will be needed throughout each stage of the van build process. With our help, you'll be prepared to streamline your build efficiently with minimal stops at the hardware store.

Researching and
selecting products

One of the most important parts of building a van is selecting the right products and features given your budget and needs. The range of fridges, ovens, fans, air conditioners, toilets, inverters, batteries, panels, heaters and more can be challenging to navigate. We have experience across van-specific products, appliances and features and can help you find the best fit. We'll prepare a report of all viable options along with pros and cons of each, and recommendations given your circumstances. We're not paid to endorse any particular products, so our research and guidance is entirely with your best interests in mind.

Interior design
and aesthetics

While it requires more considerations than in a traditional home, a professional look can definitely be accomplished in a van, even on a budget. We can brainstorm and design your future home to achieve a picturesque interior, no matter your preferred style. This includes advice on color schemes, furnishings, materials, and finishing touches that can make a big difference. To get started, we’ll schedule a free 30 minute introductory call to discuss your preferences, constraints and share some initial feedback. We’ll then prepare an interior design recommendation for you with multiple options, and schedule a follow-up video call to walk through and address questions.
